Bordeaux Blanc? Yes, there are white wines from Bordeaux!
The white wines are lesser known and tend to hail from the southern regions of Pessac-Léognan, Graves and the large Entre-Deux-Mers appellations.
The dry whites are based on
Sauvignon Blanc with Sémillon mixed in for added body. A scant amount of Muscadelle is allowed as well as even smaller portions of Colombard, Ugni Blanc (aka Trebbiano Toscano) and Merlot Blanc are permitted. Recently, due to climate change, Albariño and Lilorila have been added to the list of allowable grapes.
Nonetheless, these wines are heavy on the SauvyB which is booming with citrus and green fruit aromas. The less expensive wines tend to be more lively with fresh fruit at the forefront unlike some of the heavy hitters from Pessac-Léognan that are oak fermented/ aged therefore presenting a wine with a richer, fuller body and flavors from the oak and aging.
Be on the lookout for #bordeauxblanc especially if you are a #sauvignonblanc lover!!
